After a bit of time, I usually start hearing what the device is trying to do rather than what it’s not doing, if that makes sense. With the ZD3 it clicked pretty quickly for me — the presentation just settled in nicely once I stopped comparing and just listened.

You can use any 3.5 jack mono/trigger cable and a mono splitter. Should work. You can get them cheap and in several lengths on Aliexpress.
