CD connection

Hello: I am new here. Just purchased the MC331. How do I connect my CD player? I plugged in a coax digital cable from the MC to the CD player. Then I connected RCA cables from the MC to the player. I have no sound. The meter moves, but no sound. What am I doing wrong?

Thanx

It would help to know which CD player it is.
To connect to the MC331, you can either use a digital connection via the coaxial output, in which case the DAC in the amplifier is used, or an analog connection via the RCA connectors, in which case the DAC in the CD player is used.
There is no need to use both types of connection at the same time.

It is a new Yamaha CD-S303. Sorry, I'm still a little confused. What connection goes to my Denon receiver, and what goes to the CD player? I was using the RCA analog cables from the CD to the MC and a digital coax from the MC to the Receiver. Either way I had no sound. I'm ready to give up and return it. The manual is useless. There are no diagrams.

You didn't mention that you also have a Denon receiver.
Where are your speakers connected - to the MC331 or to the Denon?
You don't get anything with a coaxial connection between the MC and the Denon because both devices have coaxial inputs (the MC doesn't have a digital output).
Can you explain what you actually want to connect to what and why you have two amplifiers for the speakers.

The speakers (Klipsch) are connected to the Denon. I guess I'm out of luck on this. I was just trying to enhance my CD player with a DAC. As I said, I'm pretty savvy, but I guess I have the whole concept wrong. I just wish there were diagrams how to connect a DAC. There is nothing on Youtube. Just reviews. Thanx anyway.

Seem like the chain you want is this:
1. Yamaha CD- player Coaxial (Digital output) > MC331 Coaxial (Digital Input).
The CD player DAC is bypassed; digital data is transmitted to MC331.

2. MC331 3.5mm (Analog Pre-out) to Denon receiver RCA (Analog Input L/R) - for example CD/TAPE IN.
MC331 DAC convert the digital signal to analog audio and transmitted it to the Denon receiver.
The amplifier of MC331 will be bypassed; Denon Receiver will be amplifying the sound to the speakers.

Here's a diagram of the wiring.

Is this a better audio quality? Maybe.
You have DAC in all of those 3 devices that you can experiment with.
1. CD player Analog Out - > Denon Analog CD/TAPE IN (This uses the CD Player DAC).
2. CD player Digital Out - > Denon Digital Input (This uses the Denon DAC).
3. CD player Digital Out - > MC331 Digital Input - Pre-out -> Denon Analog CD/TAPE IN (This uses MC331 DAC).

I just realized this is a year old thread after writing this. Oh well maybe it'll help others.
