Since the end of November 2025, I've been using two V3 Mono and a ZP3 preamp with my speakers. An old CD/DVD player is connected to the ZP3 via RCA (connected to RCA1).
First, I've been using the ZP3 with the "Bypass" switch set to off so that I could adjust treble and bass. Had no issues at all, meaning: when I switch on the ZP3 and the CD player and I insert and play a disc, there was sound immediately.
Recently, I've set the "Bypass" switch to "Bypass". With "Bypass" in place, the ZP3 exhibits a very strange behaviour: with "Bypass" on, when I switch on the ZP3 and the CD player and then I play a disc, there is no sound at all. The CD is playing and there should be sound coming out of the speakers but the ZP3 is not letting any audio through. The only fix is to cycle from RCA1 to RCA2 to XLR-in and then back to RCA1 and then suddenly there is sound.
Switching "Bypass" off again fixes the problem, meaning: the ZP3 produces sound immediately when switched on.
I couldn't find anything related to this issue online or in the ZP3 manual. Is this normal and expected behaviour or does my specific unit have a problem? (If it is normal and expected behaviour: I find this terribly irritating.)
Thanks for your feedback!
Best regards from Berlin,
Georg
