My initial testing using audio tracks and a video camera yielded results but the issue was difficult to make out due to the monaural mic of my phone so I decided to make up some RCA breakout cables and connect the DAC to my oscilloscope.

That’s certainly true for new units that will have the feature built in but I think there are still reasons to have a standalone.
For example for use with vintage gear or other brands that haven’t implemented this feature. There are also plenty of high end or mid-fi integrateds(with fx loops)...

This just happened to me. I got the amps on 9/20, set everything up, and had a great listening session of about 3 hrs.
