ZD3 and ZA3 not as bright

Hello all. I have a ZD3 paired with a ZA3. They are hooked up to a pair of Infinity towers. One thing I noted after making the switch is the sound isn't as bright and I'm losing some of the highs. My speakers historically have been super bright. I'm guessing there is no EQ adjustment on the ZD3, so is there a way to add one? Another Preamp maybe?

Hello LBUCCI,

I had similar experiences with my JBL L90. The ZA3 is a bit more reserved and warmer. You can influence this to a certain extent. For example with OFC silver cable, Sparkos SS3602 OP-Amp. I also ended up changing the V3 monos. In terms of sound, they are a completely different ball game to the ZA3 and are cheaper as a mono combination.

I use the ZD3 as a DAC and preamplifier on the PC. I installed 2x Sparkos SS3602 in the ZD3 and connect it to the V3 monos via XLR. I use the linear Studer900 power supply for the ZD3. I connected the two V3 monos to 2 power supplies of 48V/10A (this gives even more power and better sound) and also installed 2 more SS3602 each. But they should be the GAN power supplies. They sound better.

The V3 Mono have just been tested by Germany's most famous hi-fi magazine Audio. They were tested there together with the ZD3 and SS3602. Conclusion: With the Sparkos, the Monos can easily keep up with 1000€ integrated amplifiers :)

When I order your specked Monos here on Fosiaudio.com, I have to pay almost $900 (before bundles/coupons). That is pretty close to 1000€

Just sain' :D

I am currently using OFC cables and using the XLR balanced connection option between the ZD3 and ZA3. I found that if I play music at a moderate to high volume the highs are there, but sound muffled below that. I also use this setup for watching tv/movies and dialogue sounds muffled.
