Fosi is developing a 5.1 Dac pre-amp for home cinema:

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...advice-on-developing-a-5-1-channel-dac.48502/

The picture proto 2 below shows the concept design of this product. Besides the I/O, it will also have/support:
1. remote control
2. capable of decoding Dolby True HD and DTS HD
3. 100W*3(CEN、FR、FL channel)+50W*2(RL、RR channel)
4. display screen
5. two HDMI eARC interfaces

If you have ideas to help the engineers and technicians at FOSI AUDIO have developed this home cinema pre-amplifier.

I think the pre-amp needs :
  • 4 HDMI inputs mini.
  • 2 or 3 RCA inputs
  • and 1 coaxial and 1 optical.
  • Sub output
  • 1 calibration microphone for acoustic correction (e.g. ARC, Audyssey) would be a big plus.
The question also is pre-amp or amp?

I would vote for a Pre-Amp, let people choose themselves their amplification.
Dolby Athmos should be supported, so 7.1 at least.

Separate from that I suggest developing a high quality Amplifier with at least 5 channels, level like Fosi V3 with PFFB. With pre-amp separated you give the public the option to futurewise just exchange it to newer standards.

My vote would be for the preamp aswell. 5.1 . Then choose your amps based on what you need. I would also keep the psu external - saves space and also allows for psu sharing with other devices. (Y leads )

Hello,
Please consider using the USB as a true class compliant audio input and not just for power, so that your pre-amp can manage a PC either on windows or linux as a multichannel source.
Check out these similar products from ESI Audio (gigaport eX) or Schiit (Syn). Thanks in advance!

Why do we need four HDMI input ports and which devices are usually connected? How many do you think are the minimum required to reduce the quantity?

I would like to see,

HDMI ARC and CEC (i am assuming CEC will allow for TV to control volume)
5.1 Line out
It should also default to 2 channel or 5.1 channel automatically based on received signal. (NO Balogna VIRTUAL 5.1 or emulated 5.1)

Is that possible?
Having the TV control volume would be key.

thanks

Frank

Certainly

1- First thing first. due to 5 mid frequency channels, those which sounds a lot, subW. needs to be 10 db louder than total sound produced and that sound which has low frequency. hence center and subW vol should be saperated.
2- Second Hdmi(arc) in should have HDMI out too. Cause most T.V.s and hdmi out devices have single out or if more one can receive on one output. Then what about video device.
3- This is my own new idea.....bluetooth still can't transmit more than 2 channels. but if bluetooth transmitter is used for both rear channels than its all solved..How? .. (a) frount 2s and center could have wired connection as they would be near pre amp. and rear would be much farther. (b) there would be an automatic delay ij rear sound due to bluetooth connection
4- and much more to consider , but in cutting cost
Thanks

  1. Make it a pre-amp - people can power their speakers with Fosi amps
  2. Bump it up to 7.2
  3. Keep it simple and affordable - the pre amp market is full of super expensive devices. The market needs a more affordable device

make it at least 8.4.4 (why 8? to have 2 independently controlled central speakers due to massive new TVs size), multiple HDMI e-ARC input and all decoding and streaming features of modern av receivers.

You can get a good cheap AVR cheap, not a market fosi can really add too.

What I think would be a great product is to learn from the failure of the Schiit SYN.

Fosi would do good with a similar to dolbly 5.1 pro-logic simulated surround DAC/Preamp with a size matched 5 channel power amp. Schiit made a 5 channel class AB amp and it was just under powered and over priced and wrong form factor for the aesthetic of the product target market.

Not having a price matched and size matched power amp was the big downfall of the Schiit SYN product.

Make it the Size of the ZP3 preamp and the power amp the same size just thicker.

Preamp inputs - Coaxial - Optical - BT - USBc - 2 pair RCA
Preamp outputs in RCA , FR/FL - RR/RL - C - SW

Preamp controls- main volume, front trim, center trim, rear trim. sub trim.

the power amp is same size footprint only thicker as needed 5 channels with the power split up like this.

front Left = 100wpc
front right = 100wpc
center = 100 wpc
rear Left = 50wpc
rear Right 50wpc

a decent sounding small form factor for the living room with a good price point aimed at a do it all 5.1 type setup for modern living space.
