Hi Fosiphiles,

We’re thrilled to kick off this thread with exciting news: S3, Fosi Audio’s first-ever network streamer, is officially in development!

Inspired by your feedback and built for music lovers who crave high-quality streaming, the S3 aims to be the perfect digital bridge between your favorite services and your Hi-Fi system. Whether you’re using Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Bluetooth, the S3 will keep your setup flexible and future-ready.

We’re planning support for Roon Ready, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay2, GOOGLECAST, and more — all in a compact design that complements the Fosi family.

In this thread, we’ll share key updates as development progresses: hardware design, app integration, certifications, and, of course, plenty of sneak peeks.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Let’s build the S3 together!

Official Statement on the Fosi Audio S3 App Experience​

Over the past few weeks, we’ve received a lot of thoughtful feedback from reviewers, beta users, and early supporters regarding the app experience for the Fosi Audio S3. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to test the product, share suggestions, and point out areas where the software experience can be improved. We truly value this kind of honest feedback, and we take it very seriously.

From the beginning, the goal of S3 has been clear: to create a serious streamer that puts real focus on sound quality, hardware design, and system performance. We know that many audiophiles today feel that a lot of streamers on the market are designed primarily around convenience and features, while fewer products are built with the same level of attention to audio performance that serious listeners are looking for. That is exactly why we decided to bring S3 to market.

At the same time, we also recognize that the software experience is a critical part of any modern streaming product. While the current version of the S3 app already provides core functions and stable connectivity, we understand that there is still room for improvement in areas such as interface organization, feature depth, usability, and overall user experience. Many of the comments we have received have been highly specific and constructive, and they have already helped our software team better understand which areas need to be prioritized first.

We want to reassure everyone that the S3 app is actively being optimized. Our team is already working on a new round of improvements, and many of the issues and suggestions raised by users have been included in our internal roadmap. An updated and more refined version of the app will be released through future software updates, and users will be able to access those improvements through upgrading the app and firmware as they become available.

This process is not new for us. Fosi Audio has always grown through community feedback. Many of our products have been refined, improved, and made stronger because users were willing to tell us what worked, what didn’t, and what they hoped to see next. That same approach applies to S3. We see this not as a finished endpoint, but as the beginning of a long-term platform that will continue to improve with real-world input from the community.

We also want to be transparent: in order to bring S3 to users sooner, we prioritized getting the hardware foundation and sound performance right first. We believed it was important to respond to the demand for a streamer that takes audio quality seriously. As a result, while the core hardware and sound performance are ready, some parts of the software experience are still catching up to the standard we ultimately want to deliver. We fully understand this, and we are committed to closing that gap as quickly and responsibly as possible.

To everyone who has supported S3, tested it, reviewed it, or shared feedback: thank you. Your feedback is not only being heard — it is directly helping shape the next version of the S3 experience. We remain fully committed to improving the app, expanding its capabilities, and making sure the overall experience grows to match the quality of the product itself.

1. The initial PCBA design has been completed, and we are now tuning the sound.
2. The enclosure mold is currently in production (for now, we are using a 3D-printed enclosure for prototyping )

So for my NAS server I use TrueNAS Scale and have my media folder shared via SMB. For my audio player I use a Raspberry Pi 3B+ flashed with Volumio Audio Player in which I am able to add network drives via NFS or SMB. Volumio will then index your local music library from the attached network share and play your music via multiple output sources (i.e. HDMI or Raspberry DAC via HAT module).

USB support could handle external hard drives and flash drives for faster access to your local music library.

Will this also offer connection to Plex? I use Plex for streaming my personal music collection and it was a big reason I went with WiiM.

It is not supported yet, but I don’t think this is an issue; it is already on our upgrade schedule, and we plan to roll it out gradually via OTA updates.

I agree with others that digital ports are a must as well as Plex support. So long as there is bit perfect transfers of data and all the things you've mentioned, you should be successful. I am excited and waiting... perhaps patiently, perhaps not.

The one killer feature I'd love to see - that's hard to find - is analog pass-through for the RCA inputs. It would be perfect if I could connect my turntable without the signal being converted to digital and back to analog to pass through

Since you are using a subwoofer with it, I assume it has a subwoofer output. But does it have a selectable crossover? Lowpass for the sub out and high pass for the main outputs? The high pass for the mains is must have to properly integrate the subwoofer in my opinion.

A change to my original suggestion, I did some research and found WiiM products have support Logitech Media Server (LMS), particularly the Pro and Pro Plus models, through the use of Squeezelite. If Fosi Audio could implement Squeezelite into the S3 Streamer, then this will be easier and provide a better use experience.

I have LyrionMusicServer (previously Logitech Media Server) as a docker on my UNRAID server and much prefer this option as I can use the "Music and Artist Information" plugin which gives additional information for my music collection: biographies, album reviews, credits, related artists etc. The information presented by this plugin are sourced from Wikipedia, Last.fm, Discogs and MusicBrainz and is very detailed.

I decided against using Volumio due to all the good features being hidden behind a paywall :-(

Yes, for a subwoofer, the crossover is indeed a very important feature. We plan to gradually roll out these functions via OTA updates in the app.
Trust us — Fosi will never do anything that disappoints our users.

I know nothing about the technicalities of any of this. I have a CD ripper that stores a ton of music that I would hope to connect. In my mind DLNA/UPnP means you just connect it and it works. I would hope it doesn’t need to get any more complicated than that. I could easily be wrong.

Yes, it has RCA input.
But how the signal is converted depends on your settings.
You can choose RCA input with RCA output or RCA input with optical (OPT) output.

All of these features will be gradually added to the Fosi App via OTA updates. In particular, for room correction, our engineers have already released an initial test version, and we’re quite impressed with the results.

However, it will still take some time before the official release, as further optimization is needed.

At my desk I have an RME ADI-2 as dac/headphone amp and I love the ability to correct for different headphones.

This could repalce the Wiim Amp I have in the living room now. The lack of Airplay on newer Wiim products rules them out for future purchases for me.

Continue adding value
But where credit were it is dus: Wiim’s relentless updates via OTA firmware and to their app is second to none. Any company that keep adding value, especially after purchase, gets my respect. Sounds like you plan to do the same

• Same knob size as ZA3 (purple/orange)
• Same diameter used for ident of ZA3 switches as size for buttons (green)
• Same curve as on the ZA3 (orange)
• Vertical alignment with ZA3 (yellow)
(Though it is well possible that when you mock it up in 3D certain things don’t work, don’t take my suggestions as gospel).

I have to agree wrt to the design, something just feels a bit off for me, seeing it is suggested to be paired with the ZD3 and ZA3.

I much prefer the flush front panel with the rounded top and bottom corners of the ZD3 and ZA3. This device feels like Fosi Audio is copying the design language of the WiiM Amp or Vibelink. There are no Fosi products with a similar design, except maybe for the MC351 or K7 DAC.

I think you have identified the most key factor and I wholeheartedly agree. Keep the Fosi Form.
Pretty sure the mock up is only a close representation and the f al item will be as you describe!

ZD3, ZA3, and S3 all follow the same design language and come from the same designer. However, there are still some differences in the details. While we aim for consistency in the overall direction, we also hope each product has its own unique character.

User feedback is what we value the most — and I believe you’ve already had a sense of that. Whenever users report product issues, we always strive to respond quickly and resolve them as efficiently as possible.

If you are Pi based Volumio but your customer base will be challenged by that and I doubt that is Fosi’s intention
If 4Stream then WiiM tweaked it, a lot, so I would just implement it as is
BlueOS would be nice if it makes economic sense

I am suggesting not stuffing another 4493 DAC into the Fosi streamer but rather making it a transport streamer and digital hub
That is where the market opportunity lies for Fosi in my opinion

You already have a nice 4493 DAC that can be bundled and fits well with the streamer

I am merely a consumer who pays attention to what people are buying for their systems and many/most WiiM purchasers are using external DACs as that is one area WiiM has failed to execute in my opinion

BTW, the WiiM TI chip amplifiers are improving and have to be eating into Fosi’s bottom line.
They seem to have addressed the load dependence issues
The Infineon chip GAN amplifiers like the $600 SMSL PA-X amplifier are an incredible value
A Fosi streaming Infineon GAN amplifier would be interesting with a touchscreen

For a streamer, having a simple, user-friendly, and stable app system is absolutely essential. Solutions like 4Stream, Volumio, BluOS, and HEOS are not what we plan to use.
While I can’t share too many details at this stage, we’ll announce more information as the product launch approaches.
Please trust that user needs will always be the driving force behind how we design and develop our products.

I am suggesting not stuffing another 4493 DAC into the Fosi streamer but rather making it a transport streamer and digital hub

Basically, it has all the features of the Wiim Pro Plus additional an XLR output.

Currently use active 4 way Multi Entry Horns I built that are HiFi focused (Synergy phase coherent ala Tom Danley).
Previously had a home grown 5 way large horn system.

I was an early adopter of WAF Najda (an amazing DIYaudio project build), DSP, 8 output channel, 4 inputs DSP / XO etc box of tricks.

I still use it..

I've been streaming for a long time.
My story is
Laptop / PC based, refined over the years.
RPi / volumio with Kali reclocked /
modified Google Chromecast audio (remember them?).
Tried various reclockers, Mutec and now Gustard U18.
Then a home trial of Ifi Streamer verses Sonore Ultrarendu.

The Ultrarendu won and I've yet to find anything to better it sound quality wise.

I recently tried a WiiM Ultra, amazing functionality and SW smoothness / stability for the money, but it came up short on sound quality.
SQ is the single most important thing to me.

For me the ideal streamer has to have at least USB output.
Lan and WiFi 6 inputs.
Be able to receive external linear PSU.
Spotify / Tidal / Qobuz connect.
Have the best Sound Quality possible.

If it can better Ultrarendu, at a reasonable price I'd buy it.

Give us a network bridge streamer, let me bring my own power supply, DAC and preamp too! You have a new preamp coming, right? And build a real streaming board, don't stuff a Raspberry Pi board in it. Also, galvanic isolation on the output section with a decent clock. USB output for an external DAC too please. C'mon guys, don't blow this one. Most of us already own a WiiM Ultra or Pro, they are nice, but I already own a DAC and preamp, I just want a solid standalone one purpose unit to stream music. One that simply streams music, that is it, nothing more, just like the Volumio Rivo and Rivo+. Build that, and I think you will have a huge hit on your hands. I already own three WiiM Ultra streamers, I do not need another.

I can picture this system right now. The S3 as a stand alone streamer, no DAC, no screen or preamp, just a simple LED light to tell me it is powered on. I can see my S3 sitting on top of my ZD3 DAC, sitting atop your new, yet to be released preamplifier, sitting on top of my two ZA3 Amplifiers. Give me that stand alone, one purpose streamer and fulfill my dreams. ;-)

Better to put all efforts into best possible sound quality of the Network Bridge solution.

This is exactly what I want so all efforts put towards good power supply so we get a clean output through USB for full bandwidth and then a great simple OS similar to Wiim supporting all common streaming services( Tidal, Spotify and Qobuz minimum) and local file playback.

My setup will be new streamer - ZD3 - V3 monos - Speakers, only thing missing in my chain is the streamer so eagerly waiting for release….

I have Raspberry Pi 3B+ as piCorePlayer connecting to remote Lyrion Music Server installed as a docker on Unraid connected to my Marantz AV receiver. All music is stored on an SMB share on the same server.

Currently I am awaiting delivery of 2x ZA3's with 48v/5a PSU's which I will be running in mono mode with a ZD3 DAC connected via XLR but am not sure if the DAC will support audio input from the Raspberry Pi over HDMI.

This is also the reason I agree 100% with your S3 streamer only suggestion no DAC for future purchase.

I have used audio through HDMI only on my AVR as most dedicated DACs don’t have HDMI input, on ZD3 also have not tried HDMI as I don’t have a micro hdmi to hdmi cable so cant comment on it. Usually USB audio is a solved case especially with new XMOS chipsets and clocks in modern DACs so I trust them. ZD3 should support audio through HDMI from Raspberry Pi, in squeezelite just configure vc4hdmi0 as the audio out and that should route the audio to ZD3 through HDMI.

I mostly stream from Tidal to LMS through tidal plugin and my personal music files are on hard drive connected to my Raspberry Pi. Music goes from Tidal –> Raspberry Pi USB out –> ZD3 XLR out –> Fosi V3 monos –> JBL Studio speakers. Quite happy with the setup but a dedicated streamer hardware with great software might improve the sound quality a bit more and I trust Fosi will deliver my expectation..

Unfortunately, the S3 does not support an AES/EBU interface at this stage, but it does support an optical output.

Please at least consider a proper coax digital output in addition to optical. My use case would be using active speakers that accept digital input via coax. Currently using the FIIO SR11 streamer.

It sounds like a great option for use with your newly announced ZP3.
I currently have a pair of V3 Monos hooked up to a WiiM Pro Plus.

The V3 Monos are awesome. I'm not thrilled with the WiiM. After a few months, the WiiM app is constantly losing connection to the device. It's very frustrating because it happens almost everyday.

It would be amazing if this device/fosi app is capable of indexing your personal music collection stored on NAS shares on your LAN or USB. I currently use Volumio on Raspberry Pi but it is clunky and slow. This feature would also set the S3 apart from other streamers in the market.

Have you tried moode? I used volumio for a while but have switched to moode and it seems much more solid. Especially using the yaMPC app to control it.

I currently use an iPad to play Apple Music and connect to my NAS to play my MP3. Can you provide information on the app for this streamer?

Quite happy with the setup but a dedicated streamer hardware with great software might improve the sound quality a bit more and I trust Fosi will deliver my expectation. I mostly stream from Tidal and my collection is on a hard drive directly connected to Raspberry Pi.

It’s a bit unfortunate.
Since both optical and coaxial are just different interfaces for the same SPDIF signal, we chose the more common optical input. We’re sorry for the inconvenience—there are already quite a lot of input modes to manage.

Please ensure that the wireless connectivity is stable and rock solid. This sounds like a great alternative to the WiiM Pro Plus. I think that the WiiM is overrated.

DLNA for accessing a local network source is great. I currently use Minimserver.

It sounds like a great option for use with your newly announced ZP3.
I currently have a pair of V3 Monos hooked up to a WiiM Pro Plus.

The V3 Monos are awesome. I'm not thrilled with the WiiM. After a few months, the WiiM app is constantly losing connection to the device. It's very frustrating because it happens almost everyday.

For a streamer, Wi-Fi playback is a very important and frequently used feature. We will make sure to thoroughly test the stability of Wi-Fi playback.

DLNA is already supported and works properly on the current samples.

I have not tried Moode yet but have since switched from using Volumio to piCorePlayer on Raspberry Pi 3B+ connecting to remote Lyrion Music Server installed as a docker on my Unraid Server. My FLAC audio is also stored on the Unraid server and the folder is passed through to the LMS docker.

I see a lot of people requesting Rune support and was also thinking of giving it a go as well. I might want to add a touch screen to my Raspberry Pi with RuneAudio. It would make a nice display to view album art, browse shares, select and play music with a more hands on approach.

You can add a screen to your current setup and install Jivelite which is avaiable under Tweaks in PiCore player. The interface is quite clean screen shot attached

This looks good also and love the small form factor with balanced outputs and sub put. As long as it has bass management and high pass filters that's good. A USB audio in would also be a plus to use for my PC as an audio output device and when my PC is off I can use it as a streamer.

Nobody use internal DAC, we all (most of us) connect them over coax. It's important to work on wifi, but we all try to have streamer connected over hard wire to internet for stability.

I could use streamer without RCA or xlr, with only USB/coax/spidif out. I will wait for your streamer for new setup i make in another room, my plan was to buy Wiim mini, but I will wait. Could have dongle like DAC and rca just in case, but most of people won't use rca in basic streamer. Having USB is huge advantage over Wiim pro (pro plus and mini)

Or, I could use state of art DAC with streaming capabilities (same go for streaming amp), something what Wiim ultra tried to be, but it's not. If something like that is possible I would change my main setup.

Please make Deezer work and make app easy to use.

It’s true that most Fosi users already have their own DACs and amplifiers—sometimes more than one. That’s why many of them prefer a streamer that focuses purely on its core function. It allows them to upgrade their system without disrupting the existing setup and keeps the overall cost minimal.

With that in mind, we’ve developed the S3 Lite, designed specifically for those users who want a simple, dedicated streaming device. Compared to the S3, it’s more focused and streamlined. The S3 Lite is scheduled to launch around January 2026.

At the same time, we also recognize that some users are looking for an all-in-one solution. Our goal is to offer different product options to meet different needs—that’s exactly what Fosi has always been about: providing practical, user-driven solutions.

As for the USB audio output you mentioned, we completely agree it's a very useful feature. We’re actively working on it, but there are still some compatibility challenges to overcome. If you're interested, we'd love to have a deeper technical discussion on this topic.

Regarding Deezer, it’s not supported on the S3 at the moment, but we plan to add it via a future OTA update. Fosi has always placed a strong focus on user feedback, and we’ll do our best to roll out these updates as quickly as possible.
